5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Working Remotely

I've been receiving a number of questions about starting out as a remote worker and thought of compiling the most recent questions into a short bonus episode so that I could refer this to anybody else who asks the same questions.

In this episode, I'm sharing my thoughts about working for free, raising your rates, Paypal fees, and doing work that you love & value so that clients will do the same for you as well.

Please note that this reflects my combined total of 8 years worth of experience doing freelance and more recently digital entrepreneurial work as a remote worker from the Philippines.

Show Notes

5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Working Remotely

  1. Work for free for experience is okay

  2. But working for free for more than a year is not

  3. Using Paypal? Make sure you get your fees clean, meaning no you shouldn’t be shouldering your Paypal fees. If your employer doesn’t agree, then raise your rates to cover the transaction and currency fees. If they still don’t agree start looking for another employer. Look for one that values you.

  4. Do work you love and that you value so you also attract clients who love what they do and value the work you do.

  5. (This is hard) but it’s not always about the money
